    How does Propecia work?
Finasteride is recommended for the treatment of male hair loss. The medicine appears to inhibit the action of an enzyme responsible for the conversion of the male hormone testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, which is a byproduct of testosterone metabolism. This enzyme is called 5-alpha reductase and hence the name of the drug is 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.
Dihydrotestosterone damages the hair cells of men resulting in hair loss. Finasteride helps reduce Dihydrotestosterone in the scalp and in the bloodstream.
Propecia is taken orally for the treatment of male hair loss. Men who used Finasteride have noted increased hair thickness, hair loss prevention, and hair receding where it was lost. This drug should be taken for at least six months to see a clear change in hair loss. Finasteride may be used between 9-12 months but if no effect is reached, treatment must be discontinued after 12 months.
The medication is indicated for the treatment of patients with androgen alopecia or hair loss.

Finasteride should not be used by the following patients:
    - Women and children should not use this medicine. Pregnant women should not touch crushed or broken tablets when the substance can be absorbed through the skin and damage the fetus. Most often, the pill is covered with a protective membrane to prevent skin absorption. No additional benefits are added at an increased dose, so do not overdose this medicine.
    - Patients suffering from galactose intolerance should also not use this medicine. Also, patients who use Finasteride 5 mg for the treatment of benign prostatic enlargement or enlarged prostate gland should also not use this medicine.

    Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Propecia must not be used by women.
